I suppose many peoples suffered under Turkish rule. They really walked over
1/4 Eastern Europe, came till Vienna where they were stopped at the
Schanzen Graben We had Bulgarian neighbours and they said the Turks
committed such atrocities there that until today they don't call Turkish
coffee by this name. I suppose they occupied a large part of Rumania too.
There is a song we sang on May 10th. which expresses the yoke they suffered.
A venit din munti un vultur si nea zis: Popor Ruman dece mai sufer jugul
unui neam pagan ..... forgot further, but our dearest Hedwig will be able
to add it. Translation: Down came a vulture from the mountain and said:
Rumanian people how long will you be willing to suffer a pagan people's
yoke?
And so the first king of Romania freed his people on May 10th.
