Hi
I am usually a very silent member of the list.
My direct family left Eastern Europe in 1850 and made aliyah to Israel.
They were swept up in the Messianic fervour of the time. The
disillusioned next generation left Jerusalem in 1900 to seek their fortune
in Southern Africa.
I actually have no proof my direct family were from Czernowitz but it is a
name that was whispered once or twice by the older family members. Kranzdorfs
clearly lived in the town (I have found some records), but no connection to
my family yet.
So given my weak connection to your town, I dont think I have much
to add. But I do so enjoy the your emails.
I am actually writing to thank you for the link to this Austrian website. I
found a reference to a Jacob Kranzdorf who was born in Czernowitz but was
buried Vienna. From my previous research I was able to discover that he was
an engineer who was killed while building an important railway line.
But I have no
idea who his family was. There is an obituary for him in German on the
site. I would be very grateful if someone could help me translate it.
Please contact me by email and I will send you a copy of image.
Wishing you all a good Pesach
Michael
