David,I have looked at the original article in "Der Tag" and the translation
into English does not support you! It basically says that the "Verein Alte
Chorschule" used the synagogue as a venue for election of officers etc.
This is German,not Jiddish in any form. It goes on to state that out of 117
members of the organisation 96 with voting rights turned up to vote. I do
not doubt that there was a shul called the Choral Synagogue but this meeting
was of a different organisation. And my last argument is that if this was
indeed the Board of a synagogue one would expect some rabbinical presence on

It was a schul. My family went to schul there in the 1920s / 1930s. My
mother Erica
particularly remembered the cantor, Pinje Spektor, who was a composer of
remarkable sacred melodies. (He was married to the sister of my great uncle
Lazar Schaechter.)
