Subject: [Cz-L] Yiddish-Ukrainish, [with translations]
I do remember the folowing expresions:
1. - Yusku steifhut = I think that this expression was used for a certain
type of "smarty" that made himself important without beeing?? I am not
sure.
2. - vosme bo pliuno = take it away or I will spit (presumably ukrainian
or
russian)
3. - sto rubli nie diengi a mujic nie brat = hundrer rubles are not money
and you mujic is nor my brother (ukrainian or russisan). The meening is :
a
word is more than 100 rubles-at the Kzars time.
4. - fete verter aber trikene pirogen = great words but dry varenekes. The
meening is: words are only words.
5 - He was called: "kliger der limenar", = "Wise" man that was seling
lemons, a Jew that was seling "limenes" from house to house. (Russisegasse)
6. - In our home when someone came to visit or just passes by, the custom
was to serve the table. Kliger der limener was one that visited us often.
