Hi Bruce,
My uncle, Yaacov Steinmetz/Satati emigrated to Palestine in 1923.
Some years later he came for a visit to Czernowitz and before
he returned to Palestine he married a young woman who wanted
to immigrate to Palestine, but could not get a visa.
Once in Palestine, they divorced.
These sort of marriages were relatively common. Their purpose was always
immigration to Palestine, not emigration from Romania.
