Dear Alex,
In the Czernowitz Directories from the years 1909, 1914, 1927 you can see
that Dr. David Anhauch lived at Russischegasse # 13.
The medical doctor David Anhauch was probably the brother of Max (Ritter
von) Anhauch. They came from Storojinetz and they had also a sister.
I have a special interest in Dr. D. Anhauch because he was the great
benefactor for my uncle Ewald ( Israel ) Ehrenkranz. He somehow "adopted"
for many years this very poor child to help him receive a good education at
the First Gymnasium. Ewald was a brilliant student. I believe he spent some
pleasant hours in the "Dr. Anhauch-Haus".
I don't know how this generous help was done, probably during the years
1910 to 1914 or even after 1918 when Ewald came back from the military
service and continued his high school studies.
Do you know what happened to Dr. Anhauch? He disappeared from the 1936
Cz.-directory. May be your Tante Toni told you some stories about him?
Do you have pictures of the building?
Regards from Haifa
Irene

There must have been several known Anhauchs in Strojinetz and Czernowitz. I
grew up in a house in Russische Gasse which my parents and the older
Generation called "Dr. Anhauchs Haus". A niece if this Dr. Anhauch, Antonia
Zappler, was a young widow and a close friend of my grandmother in
Strojinetz. 1941 they have been deported together from Strojinetz to Siberia
and returned together to Czernowitz. Since that time Antonia, for me Tante
Toni, was living with my grandparents and my parents until her death 1973.
1949 my family was offered an apartment in Dr. Anhauchs Haus, so Tante Toni
finally spent the rest of her life in the house of her uncle. Alex.
