Being one of the few ‘Africans’ in the group (I am South African), I
feel this is a good opportunity to contribute.

The Lemba are a tribe in northern South Africa and parts of Zimbabwe.
They consider themselves ethnically Jewish. Religious however they
have mostly become Christian. They share some interesting Jewish
cultural practices. They don’t mix meat and milk for example.

 I have heard Dr Rudo Mathivha, the daughter of the Lemba leader speak
a few years ago. Their oral history claims they came down from north
Africa many centuries ago and built the great Zimbabwe ruins. DNA test
have confirmed that their male line is of Jewish descent.
