Hello Lisa,
I have not conducted any research in any Russian archives yet - as they are n=
ot readily available on the Internet or easily accessible from abroad via em=
ail or other such means. Besides, I do not speak Russian, which does not hel=
p. :-(
However, I know for certain that another great-grandfather of mine from Bess=
arabia was in the Russian / Soviet Army - so I definitely intend to do somet=
hing when I have exhausted all other available "remote" research possibiliti=
es - and I also know that there are various archival holdings where one can c=
onduct research.=20
I guess Jewishgen would be a good starting point and perhaps ask for advice i=
n one of the regional discussion groups which cover territory which at one t=
ime or another were under Russian/Soviet rule - e.g. Bessarabia, Ukraine, Be=
larus ...=20
For people who were drafted by the Soviets during WWII and died there is a s=
earchable site but I do not have it at hand just now, I will look it up and s=
end it to you, it might prove useful.=20
Kind regards,
Dana Dimitriu
