Thank you very much for your kind congratulations. I still really
can't believe it.

What makes it so wonderful for me is that I know only too well that
when my parents came here fleeing the nazis, most countries would not
have given them refuge. This great cpuntry did. I and my family thus
owe Britain a debt of honour that can never be properly repaid But
this award - and the OBE I received in 1999 - tells me that I might
have repaid a small fraction.

To think that such a wonderful thing could happen to the son of a
little Czernowitzer yidl.
