Maybe a Czernowitzer with a better memory than mine can provide the name of a very talented and practically famous man.
He was Hungarian who had lived in Transylvania and had failed to register in time after Romania took over Transylvania after WW I and thus ended up as a man with no citizenship.
He was the pastry chef at a wonderful cafe on Herrengasse (I vaguely recall the cafe was on a corner)
He made the most wonderful cakes and in preparation to emigrate from Romania my mother took a course with him. For the rest of my life I was treated to some of the most incredible Dobosh Torte and various fantastic deserts. The secret to the great quality in each of these deserts was ten tons of unsalted butter. Mother thought very highly of this man whom I never met.
