Subject: Fleminger Family
Dear Cornel, Peter and Madelon
Thank you, Cornel, for forwarding my e-mail to Peter and Madelon and thank
you everyone for such prompt responses.
This is the information I have from my paternal grandmother, Clara Prager,
born Levin on 22 November 1866. She talked to my father who wrote some rough
notes from which I am working.
Clara Prager was the daughter of Bula (or Beila) Levin, born Fleminger in
Sadagora. Bula Levin died age 75 in 1912 so was born around 1837.
Bula's father was Kalman Fleminger who was a cattle dealer and was mayor of
Sadagora. Her mother was Le'rauhel Fleminger, born Gotlieb. She had a dry
goods store.
Bula married Usher Lemel Levin who was born in Brody. He died age 77 in 1914
so was also born around 1837. He had a brewery with an associate in Sadagora
and a "different Sunday Business".
Usher Lemel Levin married at age 17 in about 1854. So Bula was probably also
about 17 when they married. They had probably 7 children born between about
1854 and 1872. The first 4 children died at ages 6 years, 3 years, 4 1/2
years, 8 months. My grandmother was then born in 1866, followed by Mina in
1869 and Paula in 1872. All three survived (Clara until the age of 94) and I
knew them before they died in New York City in the 1950s/1960s.
I would welcome any information anyone has about others in the
Fleminger-Levin family.
If Kalman really was a mayor of Sadagora, does anyone know where I would
find records for this?
And does anyone know where else can I search on-line for possible family
members? Is there a Ukranian/Romanian equivalent of the UK census. Are
births, deaths, marriages, war records available on-line?
So far, most of the family history I have found on-line has been through
Holocaust sites but I believe there were no Holocaust victims in this part
of my family tree.
All suggestions welcome.
Very best wishes
Jean Weightman (born Prager)
