Subject: RE: [Cz-L] Moishe Altman question
David...
Thank you for your approach and - frankly speaking - I don't know how to
begin, as Moishe Altman, the great-grandfather of your wife was an
outstanding personality embedded into the Jewish - better Yiddish - cultural
life in Czernowitz at the beginning of the 20th Century and, as you most
probably know, a close friend of Eliezer Steinbarg, the Grand Master of the
Yiddish Fable. Therefore I'd strongly encourage you and/or your wife to join
the Czernowitz-L Discussion Group, as many of our more than 400 members will
be able to add pieces into the puzzle concerning the biography of Moishe
Altman. For the beginning, I'd like to draw your attention to the following

Note: Vera Hacken's book "Kinder- und Jugendjahre mit Elieser Steinbarg"
available as pdf-file at the above mentioned address, is crucial for the
understanding of the cultural life of Czernowitz and the narrow circle of
friends around Elieser Steinbarg.
Warmest wishes for now and see you at the Discussion Group!
