 Church for=0ABucovina during the Holocaust. Mr. Popescu sent me a recently=
 published book titled The=0AHolocaust of Memories.=0A=0AI am looking for a=
ny information any of=0Ayou might have relating to the following.=0A=0AThe =
book deals with a controversy over=0Athe hoped-for award of Righteous Among=
 the Nations by Yad Vashem for=0Ahis grandfather, The Metropolitan Bishop,=
 Tit Simedrea (1886-1971)=0A=0AIt is an interesting case and I=0Awondered i=
f any of you might have any intelligence that might relate=0Ato it.=0A=0ADa=
vid Slacman was a Jewish printer. He=0Aand his wife, Ida, with their child=
ren, Marcel, Beatrice & Gari,=0Aoriginally from Iasi, moved to Chisinau a=
nd then to Czernowitz=0Awhere David was hired by the church to run their p=
rint shop. =0A=0AThe Slacmans had a temporary permit=0Afrom Traian Popovici=
 but it was not signed by Calotescu. They lived=0Afor a while at 6 Dragos V=
oda Laterala Street and were hidden from=0Athe Nazis in the basement of th=
e Metropolitan's Palace by George=0ARussu, a painter and art consultant to =
the church. Russu has been=0Ahonored by Yad Vashem as a Righteous Among th=
e Nations.=A0=0A=0AAccording to=0Athe book, Marcel Slacman has been trying =
to get the bishop also=0Adesignated as a Righteous but has run into blocks =
at Yad Vashem for=0Avarious reasons.=0A=0AMarcel, now goes by the name of M=
eir=0AShai and lives in Haifa. I expect to be in contact with him soon to=
=0Aget more of this story from the horse's mouth.=0A=0AI suspect that the p=
roblem that Yad=0AVashem may have had in this case would involve a lack of =
additional=0Averification and some possible anti-Semitic background on the =
part of=0Athe Bishop who, however, would have had to approve of hiding the=
=0ASlacman family in his palace.=0A=0AThanks in advance for any information=
