I was told on my visit there last year that Kruschev, himself, ordered the stars cut after he visited the building.

This cutting off Mogen David edges was done during Soviet rule.
    Nazis ? in Soviet Czernowitz ? Long after the war ?
     Taking a hacksaw and working for an hour for the 4 cuts you
      must be motivated. At night presumably.
      Attributing all this to imaginary Nazis is an easy way out
        but not very convincing.
