The good thing they came back. Actually, it was a miracle. Not everybody
were that lucky.
Cursing in Russian was the best way to relate to the reality of being in the
Soviet Red Army during WWII.
The word you've mentioned (in singular, not in plural) is still a favourite
exclamation for many Russian-speaking individuals. It still reflects
beautifully the harsh Russian reality.
