Schmattes, or rather "Alte Sachen, alte Schmattes"
were sold in 1944 - 45 on the Mehlplatz.
Not only the poor Jews of the Judengasse bought Schmattes.
In true communist fashion, we were all of us equal
and all of us proletarians could afford only Schmattes.

Not many felt like singing, but if we sang, we sang the "International"
