                         Hello all,
"Liceul Oltea Doamna was a Romanian public school for girls
which also admitted Jews and others.
At the other end of the city was "Liceul Elena Doamna", located
on str. Herescu #2. It too was a Romanian public school but only for
Romanian girls. There was also a primary girls' school in the
same building which admitted everybody, including Jewish girls.
There were also two private Jewish "Lyceums", "Carmen Sylva"
which has been mentioned before.
The other was the so called "Hoffmann Gymnasium" which in
reality was the "Liceul Iulia Hajdeu" located on
Austria Platz. Why Hoffmann? because it was founded by Iulius
Hoffmann who remained as a history teacher.
In the process of romanization, Iulia Hajdeu sounded better.
Alas, in 1940, it was turned into a JIddish language school.
              Ciao, Bianca
