I can answer Leo's question only partially. In the Jewish Gymnasium,
the students studied both math and sciences as well as Latin and Greek
and once they passed the Bacaleaurat exams were accepted to study
math and sciences at the Czernowitz university.

By 1922 or possibly even earlier, those Jewish students who wanted
to study medicine or law, had to go to French or Czech universities.
