Thank you for reminding me of my childhood trips from Haifa to Czernowitz.
>From 1934 every June my mother and I boarded the Har Tzion (Mount Zion) and
we returned on the same ship after Succoth. As a child I recall that I had
the run of the ship, I was welcome on the bridge, I have a memory of on one
trip holding the helm. I also had the privilege of sitting at the captain's
table after my mother coached how to hold my knife and fork with my elbows
close to my body. The captain of the Har Tzion was trained in Germany. I do
not recall his name. The captain of the Har Carmel was trained in Italy and
lived on Har Carmel in Haifa.
I hope there are others who have similar memories. Please share them

Jerry

Hi Edgar! Thanks very much..I had overlooked that bit! I know that
Walter(born in Czernowitz) at some point changed his name to Walter Neu or
Noy..looks the same in Ivrit. He lived somewhere near Haifa and I have not
been able to trace beyond that,so if anybody has more information????
