[Cz-L] Stolpersteine

Hello all,

thank you for your response and sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

In the meantime I received a response from a moderator saying that "All Stolpersteine are made and laid by Demnig, so all that is required is that you contact him at the address given on the mother site. It is our understanding that Demnig handles permissions."

So I wrote directly to Herr Demnig asking how we should go about organizing Stolpersteine in Ukraine / Romania and if he can help us with this project. As soon as I receive an answer, I will report back to the group. On the site, Mr. Demnig he prices one stone at 120 Euro.

The problem, as I see it - at least in Romania - is not the *laying* of the Stolpersteine - in Romania, you can get almost anything done for money. The problem is to create at least a minimum of conditions so that the stones *remain* where they are put. This is why I consider cooperation of local authorities as absolutely mandatory. I also assume people who live in the respective houses today will be quite suspicious if somebody just turns up and lays a stone in front of their house - they might also be afraid that somebody will take away their house.

If any of you are in direct personal contact with the local Jewish communities, could you perhaps try to find out if they know anything about Stolpersteine? and what they think about it? and perhaps they can help setting up a local project, like the one in the Czech Republic?
