I agree that Czernowitz isn't my child but I am its child and as such I
have my childhood memories, they are MINE. Each one of us has his/her own
bitter memories of unusual circumstances, unusual times, WAR. But there was
a time before and some of us want to remember it that way. It is the old
story of when you climb a mountain and meet many many obstacles, called
life, but when you reach the top of that mountain, called old age, you look
back and see the green grass which covered and hid all those obstacles you
had to overcome on the way up. Not everything needs be treated with irony.
Each one of us carries his/her own memories. I once read something about a
man who left home and tried life somewhere else,failed and returned with
only his suitcase filled with papers - his diary - and as he was walking
the suitcase became heavier and heavier. He asked himself why is it so? and
he answered himself "its my whole life story I carry".
Let everyone carry his/her own suitcase, no reason to try and belittle it.
