I would like to ask you why we MUST use "plain text"only. All I get when
using it is garbled, incomprehensible messages. Can't we use ordinary mail??

[Every post not in plain text requires a moderator to edit out the HTML which I've left
for your viewing pleasure below. As well, there are parts of the message you don't see
called the 'header', which require very careful editing to so that the List software thinks
the original message IS in plain text.
The List software demands Plain Text before it can be processed. It's that simple. There are
reasons for this, not the least of which is that malicious code can be easily embedded in
html or rich text messages.
If it's not in plain text when sent from you, someone has to take the time to convert it (me or
Bruce). If you're having difficulty with this, or getting ugly results, then get someone
who knows how to do it properly with gmail to help you.
All this is a function of the List Server software, not some evil design by the moderation team.
It comes down to either you do it on your end or we have to do it on ours. Interestingly,
JewishGen is using the same mailing List software, and requires posts to be in Plain Text too.
The difference between JewishGen and Ehpes on this matter is they simply that they send the
message back to you telling you to repost in plain text. It just doesn't get sent until you
do it. We have a somewhat 'gentler' approach -- we try and harass you until you give in.
Best regards --jerome & Bruce ]
