This is a charming travel-account and well planned report. The authors do
not let us forget the purpose of their mission : proselytism.
Bruce sent us this link some 4-5 years ago. I think this was the first
digitalized book I've read.
I remember some interesting descriptions of their stay in Sinai ( El-Arish?)
and the forced quarantine in Tulcea.
According to them all Jews they've met were ignorant, so they reported that
they have a great opportunity to save their souls.

On September 28, 1839 a mission of inquiry to the Jews from the Church of
Scotland arrived to Czernowitz. The ultimate goal of the mission was, of
course, to share certain very important truths with the Jews, but on the way
the missionaries recorded their observations and a couple of years later
published a very interesting travelogue. Here is their snapshot of the
Jewish life in Czernowitz 170 years ago:
