Hi! Have found some evidence! The Austrians used gas shells once on the Italian front,and the Germans used gas once in support of an Austrian unit on the Eastern front. This comes from the Austrian Military History establishment in Vienna. There was certainly no wide-spread use. Cornel

Hi Cornel,

My grandfather, Dr. Moritz Scharfstein, served in the Austrian Army as a "sanitation officer" (Physician- assistance, as he completed one year in Vienna medical school).
As I know, he was exposed to gas warfare and suffer from it the rest of his life.
