I know only four of the new street names,
I know even fewer of the Romanian names,
The old Austrian names, I know quite well,
even though I always use the 1941 map.
I do not have the faintest idea who Brancoveanu was,
but Liliengasse is obvious because of the waterlilies
incised into the wall of what formerly was a bank
on the corner Liliengasse - Ringplatz.
I lived on the Schmiedgasse, "Cronicarul Neculcea"
who was he? And who was Ghica Voda?
"Der Franzoescher Garten" is much more descriptive.
Had the Romanians left us in peace, not discriminated
against our parents in high-school and university,
we may in time have become as loyal to them as
to Kaiser Franz-Joseph.
