I must confess that in my use of German in all kind of circumstances the
term Gedankendach never came up.

  I could never compose a sentence with Gedankendach. Never had to.
  On the other hand Kanaldeckel is a different story.
  Almost daily use,
  " Pass gut auf ,in der Pizelligasse ist ein offener Kanaldeckel ! "
     My father one day fell into one.
      But never from a Gedankendach.

Ein Gedankendach kann entweder ein Dach, also eine Ueberdachung, also
Ueberdeckung fuer eine Anzahl von Gedanken die ein gewisses Thema
umweben - in our case Czernowitz- oder aber es ist ein hoeherer Stand
von dem man verschiedene Gedanken eines (in this case same Czernowitz
object) uebersehen kann.
You are invited to chose your own version of Gedankendach, the H.B.
one, that seems to me has quite an extension.
