Dear Bianca,
Thank you so much for your hint concerning the first publication of Paul Celan's "Death Fugue" in Romanian language. I do know, that Celan published several poems in "Agora", but I'm very in doubt, if this applies to the "Death Fugue" too. John Felstiner from Stanford mentioned as follows:
"'Todesfuge' first appeared not in German but in Romanian (it was Celan's first published poem and his first under the name 'Celan'). In May 1947, the Bucharest magazine Contemporanul printed Petre Solomon's translation..." [John Felstiner - Paul Celan: Poet, Survivor, Jew - Yale University Press, New Haven and London]

An earlier publication of the "Death Fugue" would be in fact a most fascinating find. Do you have any evidence for that?
Warmest wishes to you, dear Bianca, and I looking forward to reading your comment!
