The people who wanted to leave the area were Romanians who wanted
to cross to Romania. For unknown reasons, they were buried at the
south end
of the Jewish cemetery. There is a commemorative plaque on the site
and the Romanian community takes good care of the area.
This event, served as an excuse for later murderous actions by
Romanian villagers
and military against Jews in the area.
There are also graves of Turkish soldiers at the Czernowitz Jewish
cemetery.
