Hi Hardy:
There might be a possibility here in the US.
In the early 1900s there was the A. Rittigstein & Son Hardware store in Oakland, California (San Francisco) which featured the new Sherwin-Wiliams paint and oil line. They were located at 971 Broadway Street. Records from that period show it is associated with being a registered "locksmith."
Later (around 1936), they may have merged or opened a second enterprise that became the well known real estate brokerage firm of Maiden-Rittigstein & Co. located nearby at 1310 Broadway.
Perhaps there is a connection.
Regards,
JB
