Dear Listers

I am just reading a book which explains what effect English middle class children's reading (Winnie the Pooh, Alice in Wonderland, Swallows and Amazons etc) had on their understanding of family life in the 20s and 30s, and from that, how it influenced their understanding of kinship.

It occurs to me to ask what children's classics were read by the Czernowitzers. Apart from Grimm Brothers fairy tales, are there similar classics? And how do you remember them? Did they influence your understanding of family life?

Thanks for any reminiscences

Helene
