Czernowitzers...

Iosif Vaisman's recent post, in which he 'mined' the Ehpes posts for
'Stanesti' reminded me that I had promised to investigate why the
little Search Box that used to be on our home page no longer worked.

The search box actually stopped working because Google stopped
supporting it; I then removed it. In its place, Google figured out a way
to monetise what used to be free. I will spare you the actual details,
except to say that it's now a 'cockamamie ' scheme not worth pursuing.

All is not lost however. Most Browsers have a default search engine box
integrated into them -- it may not be Google (Microsoft's Internet
Explorer uses Bing I believe, and Yahoo uses Bing as well).

Using Iosef's search as an example, here's how to search the entire
Ehpes website and Blog for content using keywords:

My Browser is FireFox and uses Google as its embedded search engine, so
in the Google search box, I type in 'stanesti ehpes.com'. This will
force the search engine to look for Stanesti on Ehpes first. There were
nine + results.

I then went to Bing, just to see what the difference in search results
might be, and entered the same search term returned two relevant results
followed by a host of garbage.

Another example:
If you want to find the posts written by Lucca Ginsburg and all the
articles on Ehpes including the Blog, that mention her, use the search
term: 'lucca ginsburg ehpes.com'.
Google produced about 20 relevant hits; Bing produced about 6.

Of course you can always go to google.com and type in your search term
without using your browser's embedded search engine -- the important thing is
to append 'ehpes.com' to the search term.

Happy searching!
