[Next time in Plain Text please --thanks]

My father was taken by the Russians (1941) when my mother was six months
pregnant with me. Similar to your story Gabrielle, though after liberation
she heard that he was killed, she spent many years looking for him.

By the way, I am presently in Cz, having a quite a productive time. With
the help of Mykola & Anna at the Jewish Museum I was able to find a
centrally located apartment near the university. I've now been here two
weeks, three more to go. The Museum has also arranged for me to accompany
two student groups who go to small towns in CZ vicinity to interview older
people about what they remember about the war years and their former Jewish
neighbors...I accompanied two students to Nepolokivtsi and the following
day to Velykyi Kuchuriv...both very strenuous but productive trips. I'm
also presently teaching a workshop for young photographers (the actual age
range is from around 11 to 45). The first day I gave a talk about
photography a representation, talked a little about myself, my history and
why I'm here and showed them a small selection of my previous work.
Yesterday Anna Yamchuk took us on a tour of the city to point out Jewish
sites. Both she and I were
interviewed for television and then the cameraman & interviewer followed
our whole trajectory through town. Today again I will be interviewed for TV
about my project and also am being interviewed for an art journal out of
Kiev. Later today I will be going th Hesed Shoshana to meet with Dr. Bursuk
and a group of Transnistria survivors who meet every Wednesday at noon.

So a pretty busy time...und die Zeit vergeht zu schnell..I post a small
selection of my daily pictures on facebook - so those of you who are
connected to me there can follow what I've been up to. I'm interested in
complex reality so they're not all about one thing. I look forward in
August to the cemetery work camp & Christian Herrmann being here - it will
be another phase for me to photograph.

Best wishes to all

Sylvia
