Dear Avi,

Reinforcing Irene's argumentation (see below), let me add, that "Der Tag" was just one of more than 200 (!!!) newspapers in German language, which appeared in Czernowitz. Our fellow member Peter Elbau has compiled a most comprehensive publication listing, online available at:

http://bukowina.info/Zeitschriften.html

The significance of "Der Tag", released between 1932 - 1935, results from its editorial staff, among them Rose Ausländer, Alfred Kittner, Heinrich Goldmann and others, and from the fact, that a virulent Romanization took place during this period of time. "Der Tag" was - at least at the beginning - a (left-)liberal newspaper, which tried to oppose the growing anti-Semitism.

Hope, these data will be useful to you. Warmest wishes!
