Thanks Irv for this interesting comment.
It seems that there were from the beginning all sorts of tensions with the
Maccabiah ( see in "Haaretz" )
For those curios to know how well our Czernowitzer Romanian athletes fared
at the 1932 Maccabiah, "Der Tag" published the final placement ( by counting
points and not medals) of the participating countries.
The writer tells with pride that "we" are on a better place than England (!)
and other 10 countries.
I have posted the results at :

Regards,
Irene

Subject: RE: [Cz-L] The "Jewish Olympic Games" 1932 vs. 2013
With regard to the Ukrainian delegation at the Maccabi Games - I know that
there was a hockey team from the Ukraine that was in competition
- but they were late entry as a team that was supposed to come from France
had to pull out and the hockey venue needed another team for the tournament.
Alex Zhitnick who was an NHL all star played on the Ukrainian team and there
was much speculation that he came to Israel to rediscover his Jewish roots.
When asked about his heritage, Zhitnick said he was not Jewish - and
although there may have been a few Jewish guys on the team, the vast
majority were not Jewish. This also happened in the 1997 Games, when a
Russian team pulled out and another team was needed for the tournament.
There may have been other Ukrainian delegates.
