Exactly what my grandmother would say... Austria, Chernowitz (or she would
say - Pachernowitz- or something like that. And Bukavina.
As I understand it, Austria WAS the country back then, Chernovitz is the
town, and Bukovina was the area, kind of like a county.
I am still struggling to find my grandmother's family. Name was changed to
Brooks, in US, and I know almost all the Brooks related to this family in
the US. But we can't find a link in Europe. The name originally was
Brochsmeyer (Broxmire, Brachsmeir) no one really knows. My grandmother's
brother was just called Brooks!
If anyone has seen or knows of that last name, I would appreciate it.
Ironically, I have been able to track down my grandfather's family, from
Rumania, Bessarabia, with a last name we didn't really know. But I have
found the Kitrosser family, which was the original last name, changed to
Spellman. I have even connected to family, with a cousin living around the
corner from my brother!

Hello,
On papers, my grandmother said she was born in Austria. One family member
said Czernowitz, and another said Bukowina.
Could they all be correct? Is there a map in your collection that shows all
of Bukowina?
