In the good old days, when most men had mustaches,
or as they were called in German: Schnurrbart (string beard).
Maybe in Germany or Austria, men had thin mustaches,
resembling a string. But as you can see in this photograph,
Czernowitzers opted for more substantial mustaches.
My paternal grandfather had an even more substantial mustache,
curling upwards, covering his upper lip and extending
to his cheeks.
"Wenn schon denn schon"! (loose translation: if you do something,
do it fully or extensively!)
