[Cz-L] A question concerning the Czernowitz BMD Records Database

Dear All:

Best wishes for a Happy and Healthy 2014 to you and your families.

I have a question.
My mother, Sara Gerstenhaber, was born in Czernowitz in 1921 when it was under Romanian rule.
Her birth record in the Cz BMD Records Database has all the correct information about her (birthdate, parents and grandparents names, etc.) but indicates her given name was "Sali."
She never mentioned this had been her assigned name and I never heard her parents use this name.
Can anyone shed any light on why this might have been?
Was it just a clerical error on the part of the person entering the information in Crnauti?
or, could Sali have been a Romanian version of Sara?
Any insights would be appreciated.
