Mimi,
Leon Blum was indeed a prisoner in Buchenwald from March 31,1943 until
April 1945, but for a number of reasons he was accorded a very special
status. With several other "high value" prisoners he lived in a
separate house (perhaps outside of the barbed-wire fence), had more
than adequate food, medical care, fresh French newspapers, radio,
books, etc. His girlfiend, Jeanne Reichenbach, by bribing various
Vichy and German authorities, got a permission to join him in
Buchenwald, where they were married in September 1943 and lived
together in that house.
