Thank you for drawing on this JTA agency report. As a matter of fact, this was just the prelude to the "Days of Terror in Czernowitz", which started on April 18, 1933, as we learn from the lead of "Der Tag", which I posted - including the German transcription (!) - at our ehpes.com Blog:

"Day of Terror in Czernowitz - The Swastika is Mobilizing the Mob",
"Assault of the Mob - The Army approaches at express speed"

were the headlines for the April 20, 1933 (Hitler's birthday) edition. First the German-Romanian ultra-nationalists (mis)used the Yiddish Theater as military camp, then they proceeded to the - meanwhile - National Theater. Their deafening slogan on Herrengasse was:

"Heil Hitler, Long Live Cuza, Down with the Jews!"

This was in fact, dear Steven, dear friends, the beginning of the end in Czernowitz!
