Dear Mitch,

the military situation of Bukowina is not researched in detail yet and so itīs quite hard to find reliable informations.

If you come to Vienna you should visit the Kriegsarchiv (Nottendorfergasse 2, 1030 Wien) and look after the "k.und k. Dragonerregiment Erzherzog Albrecht Nr. 9." In the Österreichnische Nationalbibliothek (national library, Heldenplatz, 1010 Wien) there should be a short history of all Austrian troops, but unfortunately the one for the dragoons Nr. 9 and the infantry regiment Nr. 41 are both missing...

The dragoons left Czernowitz directly with beginning of World War I, fought in the Carpathian's during Brussilovīs offensive and afterwards -as far as I know- at the Isonzo-frontier in northern Italy.

If your great-grandfather was major or even higher you can as well search in "Dr. Nussbaumīs Wohnungsanzeiger" where in some vintages military stuff is mentioned with names.

Good luck
Benjamin
