Hardy..not quite correct.Several small Ukrainian republics started up in
1918.1920..but then came a war with Poland and they mostly got swallowed
up...so the Ukraine per se got set up around WW2 as a soviet republic and
eventallu got their full independence when the USSR became a footnote in

 Yes around 1918 . The Soviet Ukrainean Republic.
