Trees are strange things.
In the courtyard of the house in which I lived till age three,
there was a pear tree. I do not remember it.
My parents occasionally spoke about it and I have a photograph of it
in bloom.
Last summer, when I was in Czernowitz, one of the volunteers of ASF
went with me to the vicinity in which I had lived as a child.
In front of a house next to the one in which I had lived, there was a
pear tree
growing in a crack of the pavement. There were a lot of ripe pears on
it.
We picked and ate some and I wondered whether this tree was a descendant
of the pear tree which had grown in our courtyard.
