Dear Mark, Dear Cornel,
As a tea addict, I don't know much about coffee, but I do know that Julius Meinl coffee is highly valued for its quality all over the world, although to me it has a negative connotation. Julius Meinl II was one of the war profiteers, in interbellum Romania too.
Just have a look! In September 1941 Maria Antonescu (R), the wife of Ion Antonescu, together with the wife of Hermann Neubacher (L), the leading German foreign ministry official for the Balkans
as well as Manfred von Killinger, Nazi Germany's Ambassador in Romania
were visiting the Julius Meinl factory in Bucharest. The coffee tycoon himself, Julius Meinl II (1869-1944) follows in June 1942
and MEINL came up in the world and on stage; UfA theatrical company at the Savoy in Bucharest:
More on Julius Meinl II, as published by the Austrian magazine "profil" in August 2008 is just here

but, no doubt about, the coffee was and is still good, as everybody around confirms it to me! Warmest wishes from the Netherlands!
