[Cz-L] Tit Simedrea, metropolitan of Cernauti

Some time ago, I found out that the metropolitan of Czernowitz,
Tit. Simedrea, was not accepted as one of the "righteous"
by "Yad Vashem". The reason given is that there are some controversies
about his attitudes and deeds before and during the Holocaust.

It seems that before the holocaust he voiced anti-Semitic views.
On the other hand; Ion Butnaru in his book "Waiting for Jerusalem"
"Surviving the Holocaust in Romania", writes:

> and in Cernauti he intervened directly with the Governor of Bucovina,
> General G. Calotescu."

Does anyone know whether Rabbi Safran mentioned this in his memoirs?

Also, in the correspondence of our list, someone once mentioned that
during the war, Metropolitan Simedrea hid a jewish family in his palace.
Does anyone remember, when and by whom this information was sent?
