Hi Mimi,

Some time ago I told you about the efforts Meir Shai after obtaining
for the pictor Rusu the status of חסיד אומות העולם tried to do the
same for Tit Simedrea. Rusu saved his family from being deported to
Transnistria by hiding them one year and a half in the cellar of the
Residenz and Marcel is convinced that Simedrea knew and accepted all
that.

Marcel was my classmate in 4th grade in 1940/1 at the Russian school
Vis a vis the Volksgarten entrance. In israel he tought math at the
Reali school here in Haifa. Some years ago he contacted me for help
with his research.

To read about his fight with Jad Vashem go to :

As to the real role of Simedrea concerning the Czernowitz jewish
population of at large, my guess is as good as yours. He might have
been an anti Semite as being included in his anti communist attitude,
or just for hating Jews as Jad Vashem claims, but he certainly helped
some people out. His interventions on high and local level I would say
probably true,but who knows?

Best Berti.
