This used to be a very common prefix, especially in business correspondence
, like Dear Madam, or Dear Sir,

Subject: [Cz-L] The custom of adding to addresses the phrase"of good birth"

I reget to inform you I have just returned from Chicago to Jerusalem after
the funeral of my Czernowitz born mother Fritzy Gronich Blaustein
She lived in Czernowitz until 1944 when her family escaped to Palestine.

While looking through family pictures I came accross a picture my
grandmother sent to her aunt in 1919 with the prefix "Wohlgb." My father
translated this as "well born or of good blood"
I'm glad to know I come from good blood. Are any of you familiar with this
prefix to addresses?

Oded Blaustein
