   1. Sure, Hardy, I remember Mad but I never read it - it looked too
   meshuge for me. I had a young writer in my department in an ad agency wh=

   read it all the time. What I do remember from the early 1940s was
the *Katzenjammer
   Kids* <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katzenjammer_Kids>*,* an American
   comic strip created by the German immigrant Rudolph Dirks and drawn by
   Harold H. Knerr for 37 years (1912 to 1949). It debuted December 12, 189=

   in the American Humorist, the Sunday supplement of Hearst=E2=80=99s New=
 York
   Journal <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Randolph_Hearst>. The
   Katzenjammer Kids is still distributed by King Features, making it the
   oldest comic strip still in syndication and the longest-running ever. I=

   was a very obvious copy of M&M
