Daily passed the so prekrasna
Up and down , nachalnyk daughter
At the evening time at fountain
 Where the waters white are splashing ,
 
 Daily stood the Jew- boy chlopchek
At the evening at the fountain
Where the waters white are splashing.
  Daily he goes pale and paler

Then one evening came the daughter
 And she asked in words so speedy.
 " Your name you tell me ,your land and nation,
 And the boy said : My name is Motke,
  And I come from land of Canaan,
  And my tribe are those Hebrews
  Those who die when they love,
