Subject: [Cz-L] Education of Jewish woman in Czernowitz
Dear list members,
I have been researching my Czernowitz Kranzdorf relatives for some time. But have recently managed to find a lot of new information.
To my surprise, Irene Kranzdorf, born about 1906, attained a Phd in German literature from Vienna university. Was this common for young Jewish women from Czernowitz to go to Vienna for further education?
She was also a concert pianist!
Her thesis was on Faust in the novel. A rather strange topic I think for a nice Jewish girl to be writing about...
I would appreciate your thoughts and any background you could share.
Kind regards
Michael Kransdorff
