Yes I have done my DNA genome through 23andMe, a simple saliva sample and back it came quite quickly. Since I have I met with a previously unknown second cousin in San Fransisco on my mother’s side, and have shared my genome with many who are said to be second and third cousins, predominantly in the US. I am amazed how many dozens of relatives I suddenly have from Eastern Europe going back a few hundred years. This clearly shows what small tight knit (inter marrying) communities these were, although I’m sure this was also the case elsewhere in Europe with non Jewish communities. People didn’t and couldn’t travel far before the advent of the motor car. To date unfortunately non of the surnames of these ‘new’ relatives are familiar but surnames haven’t been round that long either! I missed the date for having my medical data analysed due to FDA constraints but hope this will eventuate in the future.
